Research and Development in Rapid Deployment of Customized Atmospheric Transport Models

Introduction

This is a public presence for the prototyping of rapid deployment of atmospheric models. The long-term aim is to be able to launch - in just a few minutes - one or more custom models for specific regions and scenarios.

Given the unpredictable and dynamic needs and requirements, these are intended to run in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment. With this approach, I don't need to worry about maintaining my own high-end computing environment that might stand idle for long periods of time. With AWS I can quickly specify the environment I want, launch simulations for as long as I want, and only pay for what I use during the simulations.

The following forecasts all come from a common provisioned Virtual Machine that has the environment for acquiring needed input data, perform operational FLEXPART simulations for a specified scenario, postprocessing to produce visuals, then staging to an AWS static web environment.

Smoke Forecasts

Alaska (Paused on 11 July 2020 - not much going on so keeping the expenses down. Will restart if situation later in summer warrants.
